Walk for Farm Animals in SF – Join our Team!

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

Many animals raised for food cannot walk. Chickens who lay eggs are crammed in cages so small, with other chickens, that they don’t have space to lift their wings, much less walk. Pigs and veal calves confined in narrow pens.

Let’s walk for those who can’t.

Please join Bay Area Vegetarians and co-founder Tammy Lee in a 3 mile walk for farm animals on Sat, 10/13 in San Francisco. The walk route starts at the Ferry Building and continues along the Embarcadero to Fisherman’s Wharf, and then returns. Registration starts at 10 am, the walk starts at 11 am.

Please JOIN our team, “Animals are Friends, not Food” in the San Francisco walkathon.

All funds raised at walks throughout the country go directly to Farm Sanctuary.

Farm Sanctuary is a national, non-profit animal protection organization. Each year they rescue, rehabilitate and provide lifelong care for hundreds of animals rescued from factory farms, stockyards and slaughterhouses. In addition to operating the shelters in Northern California and New York, they work to gain legal protection for animals used in food production and to raise public awareness about factory farm cruelty and cruelty-free alternatives.

Let’s walk together — join Bay Area Vegetarians team “Animals are Friends, not Food” and support the Farm Sanctuary SF 2007 walk!

Click HERE to register or to join our team.

If you can’t walk with us on that date, then show your support with a donation! Your sponsorship of any participants in the walk would be gratefully appreciated. All funds go directly to Farm Sanctuary (Bay Area Vegetarians is participating as a team in the event; we do not receive any funding from this effort.) Click HERE to find out more.

The Walk for Farm Animals SF organizer is Bud Makelke. To contact Bud, get information about parking, see a map of the walk route, or download a flyer for this event, please click HERE. The location is easily accessibly by public transit (BART / Muni) and you’ll be in good company with many others who care for animals.

South Bay lunch?

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

How many south bay BAVeg members would be up for a regular lunchtime get-together to share vegan food? Maybe once a month to start with, or even twice a month if sufficient interest. Nothing fancy, we’ll just set a regular repeating date and time.

Some restaurant choices include:

The new Merit Restaurant in Sunnyvale

Garden Fresh in Mountain View

Kokila’s on the Cupertino/Sunnyvale border

Stern Grove Leafleting – 2007

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

BAVeg volunteers leafleted at 8 concerts during the 2007 Stern Grove season (June through August), distributing approximately 4,025 leaflets to promote awareness of the benefits of a plant-based diet and educate about the suffering and slaughter involved in eating animals.

The BAVeg Team included: Adrienne, Alex, Ari, Brent, Chris, Jack, Myles, Mary Sue, Sue, Susan, and Tammy.

Thank you to all of our volunteers who supported these events!

Thanks to a tip from Art about a new vegetarian restaurant in the Richmond district called Yummie House. He says “It is all Vegetarian and Vegan friendly.

It looks like a sandwich shop but they have an incredible variety that would challenge most full scale restaurants.”

Don’t forget to review them in the Guide.
