It's great that there is now a veg restaurant in Alameda. The menu is very much like Golden Lotus in Oakland. Everything is not vegan, so you need to be sure to specify if you want vegan.Food was very good, except for the Black China cake, which was very stale. So be sure to ask if the cake if fresh that day before you buy it.

GREAT name. Was so wanting to try them. Standing outside their restaurant, based on their hours, they should have been open but they weren't. So, zero stars for that and one star for vegan (actually vegan is worth two). Heads up for anyone making a special trip, call first. (Golden Lotus is across the street, New World is not far, so there are other Oakland veg choices if they are unexpected closed)

Have ordered vegan sloppy joe and meatball sandwiches from them several times and have never been disappointed. They also carry double-layer Black China German chocolate and peanut butter chocolate cakes and several BC cupcakes, bagels, delicious corn bread, and other snacks. Owner used to waitress at New World Vegetarian, where she was stellar. Breakroom is equally stellar - 5 stars! Check it out

I had a great lunch there today. The food was tasty (but not spicy) and healthy and vegan and organic. What's there to not like about that? There are 3 dining options: full meal, moderate portions, and simple meal. The first two have the same foods but in different amounts. The last one is simpler! There are 6 or so vegan desserts too. The menu is posted before each meal on the website.

Poor execution. Everything was very overcooked and bland. The Vada was dry and crumbly. The chai was tasteless. Even the naan bread was tasteless. The Saag was so thoroughly pureed that it was like burned spinach soup. I think that they don't cook fresh, but keep the food for multiple days. We ordered from a menu, but the food tasted like it had been sitting on a buffet warmer for a very long time

If it weren't so expensive, I would eat here every meal, every day. If you like raw food, you'll be in heaven. Take-out service can be slow, but one bite of the raw "pumpkin pie" will make you forget the wait. I loved my raw "burger" on its raw "bun", too. This restaurant makes a raw diet seem totally feasible, and they even sell their cookbook on site.

I always order a lot so I can have leftovers to look forward to the next day. Even my non-veg husband loves Garden Fresh, and he is often a harsh judge of Chinese restaurants. I like the Black Pepper "Chicken". The "drumsticks" are the ONLY veg "meat" my 4 year old will eat ANYWHERE, and my 7 year old loves the noodle soup, so it's very family friendly. It is tiny, however.

If you want to eat there, it's not as luxurious as the San Mateo Whole Foods, with less seating and fewer deli options, but for shopping it's excellent. They have lovely fresh produce, tons of meat and dairy alternatives, Earth Balance butter, etc. It's also the only store I've found which carries quarts of unsweetened soy yogurt. Very friendly staff.

The staff really seems to "get it" about vegans wanting to avoid animal products, and one waiter stopped me when I accidentally tried to order something cooked in a cream sauce. You wouldn't expect it from the location (across from Target), but it's lovely inside. We frequently order take-out here, and even large orders are always precise and well-packed. Very nice, professional service.

The 2 vegan dishes are the only things I've ordered, but I've been there twice and Luneta was fantastic both times. The chef has done something magical to tofu to create the Crispy Tokwa. The atmosphere is nice for a dinner with friends or a date, and it's not unfriendly to families. It's convenient to 101, but otherwise not a super location.

Their website is http://rojozpaloalto.com/index.htm.
The Taj Mahal and the Acropolis wraps are both fabulous. Wholewheat tortillas are available upon request. The ambiance isn't great, but the fresh, delicious food and low prices are worth it. $6 for a satisfying vegan take-out meal? I just wish I lived closer!

I placed a custom order for frosted cupcakes for my daughter's birthday party. Both the chocolate and vanilla flavors and frostings were delicious. They pleased my daughter, her friends, and my husband, all of whom are non-veg. The owner is super nice and responsive. Very reasonable prices. Awesome customer service.

The vegan server is the sweetest person ever and will make sure you order the best vegan things. I *love* the tofu enchiladas and the veggie stir fry. Great portions, great prices, simple place but clean and neat and yummy. Fab guacamole.

The atmosphere is very loud and cramped and the serving staff are unfriendly. I found a serious lack of vegan options and thought that overall the menu was uninspired. I guess you are paying for the location and partial view because considering the small portions and boring food you don't get much value.

Cash only place with 5 tables, that serves lemon grass and ginger tea made from scratch. (the tea is not too strong). They serve over 10 signature dishes with white or brown rice at ~$10 per entree. Competition is fierce, with 3 other Thai restaurants just l/2 a block away. 4th on GEary is crowded! Great/nice place to go, but my preference is still a clean hole-in-the-wall for half the price

Great place where beautiful people hang out. All the customers that eat here seems like a billboard for healthy people. There's usually a line to order food. After you order, THEN you sit at your table. Great salad (but not enough as a meal), 8 types of vegan desserts including raw vegan cheesecake which I like. (my friend doesn't like it though)
Overall, it's a popular place with goodfood

Great selection of fake meats. Unfortunately, I prefer fresh vegetables which are made perfectly here; brocolli is crunchy. I had their pai pa tofu lunch special which is a bargain for $8.15 including tax, soup, BROWN rice and egg roll. The egg roll was not soggy. The most expensive prefix dinner, was not for me cause most of the dishes have fake meat. I would order individual entrees instead

This place is outstanding in that all ingredients are organic. Good vegetarian and vegan options. Organic&fair trade desert treats, the chocolate chip cookies are special. The place is small yet pleasant, the owners and employees have been very friendly the 10 or so times I've tried, so I sincerely believe the previous reviewer had bad luck.

An enjoyable if not outstanding Ethiopian meal. All items in the vegetarian combo are made with vegetable oil rather than kibbe, the clarified butter. Prices a little higher than East Bay Ethiopian restaurant meals of this kind. Friendly service, so-so interior/surroundings/furnishings.

The lunch buffet is the best idea for veg*n folks, as there are several vegan options to choose from. Presentation is weak, but that matters to some more than others. This is an excellent choice for dining with non-veg*n folks who want to try something different.

Food is great, service is great, prices are high but reasonable considering quality of ingredients and preparation. The day I had lunch there, there was one vegan dessert available and several vegan options in the other sections of the menu. Many marked vegetarian items can be made vegan. Both are clearly marked.
This is a great place to show your omnivore friends how good veg*n food can be.

I was there 4 years ago, and I had the lunch buffet. They come over to your table and scoop food out of "cow buckets" (looks like cleaning bucket. (it's actually respectful to serve at your table. Overall, I ate too much and felt too full afterwards. They had a daikon dish that was my favorite. I usually go to the Cash And Carry grocery store next door and buy a 75cents samosa.

Service and friendly staff great, food average to good based on Hell Taco and Tortilla Soup with avocado and vegan sour cream dinner that I had. Nice to have a place open late that does serve vegan items. Knowing my food may have been on the same cutting board or cut with same knife as raw fish makes me a little queasy, but not enough to have kept me from enjoying my meal.
