The Ultimate Guide to Veg Living in the Bay Area

There is an abundance of places to find plant-based food in and around the San Francisco Bay Area. With almost 90 strictly vegetarian, over 30 vegan restaurants and an incredible array of choices regarding vegetarian products and locally grown produce, the San Francisco Bay Area is (in our opinion) the most veg-friendly region in all of North America.

"I love that such a healthy vegan place is in my not so vegan friendly neighborhood. (There is only 1 other vegan restaurant that I know of.) I had the Nourish Bowl and a chocolate banana smoothie. Both were excellent. The place seems pricey, but I know they use quality ingredients. On other visits I'll get just one thing at a time. Excellent food, excellent idea for a restaurant/take out place."

"Incredibly nice and accommodating woman owner. Their teff injera is the best I've had. Their spicy lentils and mixed vegetables are excellent, and their kale is very good. The split peas are plain, but what can one say that's bad about split peas? Nothing. Delicious, healthy, hearty food. Also, it travels well if you take food to go. I haven't tried the side dish yet but plan to on my next visit."

"Pretty basic vegan lunch offerings. 2 or 3 vegan sandwiches and some salads. The standout is their organic, fair-trade chocolate. They have vegan hot chocolate (made with almond milk), 3 types of vegan cookies, and they recently added a vegan chocolate mousse. Limited seating."
