Class Prices: If you're wondering why our classes are priced so low compared to classes offered by other instructors, it's because Bay Area Vegetarians is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote compassionate and cruelty-free foods. All labor and any profits are being donated to Bay Area Vegetarians to fund our outreach & education programs.

Note: To keep our overhead low, please register only if you can definitely attend -- no cash refunds for cancellations or no-shows. Cancellations with 72 hours notice will receive a credit towards a future cooking class. Meet our Instructors

Alex Bury

Alex BuryAlex Bury was trained as a classical chef at the world's premier culinary college, the Culinary Institute of America.  Her career as a chef was already taking off in the mid-nineties, when she became painfully aware of the plight of animals.  In 2001, she opened the famous all-organic Sparks restaurant in Guerneville, California.  Now she works full-time for PETA, and also teaches the art of compassionate cooking for Bay Area Vegetarians.  Her column, Heart Smart Cooking: Cooking with Compassion and Good Health, appears in the monthly newsletter for Bay Area Vegetarians.

Christine Dickson

Christine DicksonAfter moving to San Francisco in 2005, Christine began developing recipes for dairy-free and egg-free desserts in her home kitchen. With no formal training as a pastry chef, she created 50 of the most rich and delicious vegan desserts you will ever taste. Unlike most vegan desserts, all of Christine's recipes were rigorously taste tested on non-vegan eaters to ensure that her desserts tasted as close as possible or better than the traditional versions.

Being new to San Francisco, Christine wanted to find like-minded vegan friends to share her delicious treats, so she joined Bay Area Veg. Less than one year later she partnered with Bay Area Veg and her class the Secrets of Vegan Baking was born.
