World Farm Animals Day : a huge success
|
Earlier this month we presented World Farmed Animals Day in conjunction with the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA and Animal Place. It was a great event, and good outreach to individuals who care about animals but had not yet gone veg. Our audience numbered about 300, with nearly half being non-veg, and filled the PHS auditorium.
A big thank you to our presenters, lauren Ornelas, Kim Sturla, and Alex Bury, who graciously volunteered their time and shared their expertise. Thank you to our hardworking team of volunteers who provided enthusiasm and positive energy throughout the day - Amy, Candace, Elizabeth, Justine, Karen, Oliver, Randy, and Will.
Please also support the donors who so graciously supported our efforts - MaggieMudd, Garden Burger, Sun Flour Baking, Primal Strips, Trader Joe's, Turtle Island, Whole Foods Market, and Lantern Books.

Vegetarian Awareness Month
|
World Farm Animals Day (Oct 2nd) and World Vegetarian Day (Oct 1st) may have passed, but October is Vegetarian Awareness Month and gives us ample opportunity for all of October to promote veg*nism. Whether you wear a veg t-shirt or distribute "Why Vegan?" booklets, let us raise awareness of all the good reasons to be veg.
And don't forget your vegan Halloween treats!

Heart Smart Cooking

Two months ago, the fearless leaders of Bay Area Vegetarians (Chris and Tammy) posted a recipe for “cheese” sauce made with tahini to SFBAVEG, telling us all it was delicious. They found it in one of Joanne Stepaniak’s wonderful cookbooks, The Saucy Vegetarian. Since they wouldn’t stop talking about it, I finally made a batch. YUM.
