Photo: Tammy Lee<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Taj Grill is a leader in Vallejo&#8217;s restaurants for vegan dining.\u00a0 While it&#8217;s not a vegan restaurant, they are well-known in the local vegan community as they already clearly mark which items on their menu are &#8220;VEGAN&#8221; or &#8220;with vegan option&#8221;, and their daily lunch buffet includes vegan selections (signed as vegan).<\/p>\n<p>We\u00a0spoke to the owner Harish Chowdhary as part of our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bayareaveg.org\/blog\/2018\/02\/17\/vegan-restaurant-campaign\/\">Vegan Restaurant Campaign<\/a>, he confirmed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All of their &#8220;vegan dishes&#8221; are 100% plant-based, no animal products whatsoever<\/li>\n<li>Fried ingredients in vegan dishes are cooked in oil used <em>only <\/em>for vegan items<\/li>\n<li>Their Wednesday lunch buffet is entirely vegan\/vegetarian<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>So what&#8217;s vegan at Taj Grill<\/strong>?\u00a0 For starters, their menu lists 12 entrees as vegan (Mixed Vegetables, Tarka Dal, Aloo Gobi, Aloo Chole, Aloo Methi, Jeera Aloo, Aloo Palak, Saag Channa, Channa Masala, Pindi Channa, Baingan Bhartha, Bhindi Masala), and\u00a0the 13th\u00a0&#8220;with vegan option&#8221;, the Dal Makhni.\u00a0\u00a0Harish mentioned several of their breads are vegan, as are their pakoras.\u00a0 Other appetizers, like the samosa, are likely vegan, but have not yet been marked on their menu.<\/p>\n<p>But what&#8217;s really\u00a0notable about the vegan dining options at Taj Grill is their daily lunch buffet.\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Earlier this year, Harish made <strong>Wednesday&#8217;s buffet entirely plant-based<\/strong> (i.e. it is a mixture of vegan and vegetarian selections).<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The buffet features\u00a013 items, all you can eat for $9.99.\u00a0 In the past, savvy vegans relied on Harish to point out to them which entrees are vegan.\u00a0 \u00a0At our request, each vegan dish on the buffet will now be signed with a \u201cV\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Taj Grill Daily Lunch Buffet, 11 am to 2:30 pm: All You Can Eat $9.99<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>8 Entrees daily, described as 4 &#8220;dry&#8221; entrees and 4 curries\n<ul>\n<li>Wednesday, between 6 and 8 entrees are typically vegan, remaining are vegetarian.<\/li>\n<li>All other days, it&#8217;s split between vegan\/vegetarian and non-vegan\/vegetarian.\u00a0 It is typically 3 vegan, 1 vegetarian or all 4 vegan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Rice (vegan)<\/li>\n<li>Bread (usually vegan)<\/li>\n<li>Pakoras (vegan)<\/li>\n<li>Salad, with 2 salad dressings (vegan)<\/li>\n<li>Pudding (vegetarian, not vegan)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Harish\u00a0 mentioned the possibility of having a vegan dessert option in the future.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;d love to see the vegan\/vegetarian theme on Wednesday carry forward to additional days of the week.\u00a0 Please check &#8217;em out.<\/p>\n<p>Taj Grill,\u00a0758 Admiral Callaghan Ln ,\u00a0Vallejo\u00a094591,\u00a0(707) 644-4902 (by Safeway)<\/p>\n<p>After you&#8217;ve dined there, please add your review of them to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bayareaveg.org\/ug\/display.htm?id=1126\">TAJ GRILL in the Ultimate Guide<\/a>, and these hashtags elsewhere in the Internet!<\/p>\n<p><strong>#tajgrillvegan<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>#vrcns\u00a0#VallejoVeganRestaurantCampaign<br \/>\n#EatVeganVallejo\u00a0#NapaSolanoVegans\u00a0#WhatVegansEat #baveg<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Taj Grill is a leader in Vallejo&#8217;s restaurants for vegan dining.\u00a0 While it&#8217;s not a vegan restaurant, they are well-known in the local vegan community as they already clearly mark which items on their menu are &#8220;VEGAN&#8221; or &#8220;with vegan option&#8221;, and their daily lunch buffet includes vegan selections (signed as vegan).
