{"id":1026,"date":"2014-10-30T09:30:49","date_gmt":"2014-10-30T14:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bayareaveg.org\/blog\/?p=1026"},"modified":"2014-12-11T20:12:18","modified_gmt":"2014-12-12T01:12:18","slug":"vegan-outreach-at-vallejo-farmers-market","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bayareaveg.org\/blog\/2014\/10\/30\/vegan-outreach-at-vallejo-farmers-market\/","title":{"rendered":"Vegan outreach at Vallejo Farmer&#8217;s Market"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_1027\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bayareaveg.org\/images\/vallejofm_s.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1027\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1027 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bayareaveg.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Vallejo-FM-2014-10-18-small-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Photo collage of the day's vegan outreach at Vallejo Farmer's Market (Solano County)\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1027\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Vegan outreach at Vallejo Farmer&#8217;s Market (Solano County)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>On Saturday, October 18th,\u00a0a typically sunny yet slightly cool\u00a0fall morning, BAVeg launched its\u00a0mobile outreach unit at the Vallejo Farmer&#8217;s Market. \u00a0What is a mobile outreach unit?<\/p>\n<p>Well, if you&#8217;re a budget-conscious, small non-profit, it&#8217;s a shopping cart and plank of thin wood with all the trimmings for outreach &#8211; posters, tablecloth, business cards and hundreds of leaflets from <a title=\"Vegan Outreach website\" href=\"http:\/\/veganoutreach.org\">Vegan Outreach<\/a> and <a title=\"Farm Sanctuary website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.farmsanctuary.org\/\">Farm Sanctuary<\/a> (<em>Compassionate Choices, Even If You Like Meat, Why Vegan<\/em>, both English and Spanish language versions, <em>Truth about Humane Meat, Eggs, and Dairy<\/em>, and, of course, holiday recipes)<\/p>\n<p>Our mission:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; distribute information on all the awesome reasons to eat plant-strong, vegan foods<br \/>\n&#8211; connect and support other vegans and vegetarians, as well as the veg-curious, in the area<\/p>\n<p>Given that 548 pieces of literature were distributed that morning, and we\u00a0met some wonderful new veg friends, it was a successful day!<\/p>\n<p>Darren, who&#8217;s initial enthusiasm for this project was key to making it happen, explained why this activity was important to him and his partner Todd.\u00a0<em>&#8220;We wanted to join because I work at Farm Rescue and see the bad side of what humans do to other sentient beings, so it is important to us that we get out there and try to educate as many people as possible to all the wonderful cruelty-free options we have , so as to avoid having \u00a0to rescue and save these wonderful souls in the first place.
