RSVP: San Francisco Walk for Farm Animals - 1 Ferry Building, San Francisco, CA - 10/12/08

Original Event Notes: San Francisco will host a Walk for Farm Animals to benefit Farm Sanctuary. This special event will feature guest speaker Gene Baur, Farm Sanctuary president, co-founder, and author of the best-seller, “Farm Sanctuary: Changing Hearts and Minds About Animals and Food.”

Walkers will be carrying signs encouraging people to take action to end farm animal abuse by voting YES! on Prop 2. If passed, this ballot initiative would put an end to the intensive confinement of egg laying hens in battery cages, breeding pigs in gestation crates and calves in veal crates. These confinement systems are so small that the animals cannot even turn around and passage of Prop 2 would affect 20 million animals in California.

Walks occur throughout the U.S. and Canada every fall – on or around October 2 – in honor of World Farm Animals Day. Thousands across North America will join in these Walks to help raise funds for and awareness about Farm Sanctuary’s vital rescue, education and advocacy efforts for farm animals. Farm Sanctuary operates the largest rescue and refuge network for farm animals in North America.

Pre-registration is $15, and Walk day registration is $20 and starts at 10:30 a.m. Participants can register at www.walkforfarmanimals.org, or by calling Tania Rose, local Walk coordinator, at 510-338-4642.
