News Bites

- Good Luck and Farewell to Ben who recently graduated from high school and will be leaving the Bay Area to study at Earlham college in Indiana. Ben hosted the Palo Alto LWP since Oct 2005, and has been a voice for the animals with his letters, articles, and participation at many local events. Thank you Ben!

- BAVeg raised over $600 to buy veg materials for the Pacifica public libraries! A big thank you to Chef Alex Bury for donating her time and culinary expertise, and to Oli and Amy for assisting during the day.

- BAVeg wins a VegWebby award for our website from the editors of the VegNews magazine. It was about a year ago that the present look of bayareaveg.org launched, with the "Veg Food Finder" tool.

- Do you own a veg business? Advertise on bayareaveg.org: BAVeg accepts ads directly, and also features google ads. Our advertisers provide a regular source of funding to BAVeg, which allows us to continue to provide free membership, the Compassionate Living Program and maintain our award-winning website. If you'd like to advertise either on our website on e-newsletter, please see the following page.

Compassionate Living Program
Book Discussion Group

The Compassionate Living program examines and presents information related to vegetarianism and living a compassionate lifestyle. This month we will have an informal and supportive discussion of the newest book by Peter Singer and Jim Mason, The Way We Eat: Why Our Food Choices Matter.

It's described as a "thought-provoking look at how what we eat profoundly affects all living things—and how we can make more ethical food choices".

You can read more reviews from readers on Amazon

The September program will feature Nora Kramer, returning with her popular presentation on "Effective Communication for Veg*n Advocacy, Family & Friends".

Redwood Retreat at Butano State Park
Redwood Retreat at Butano State Park

BAVEG 5th annual camping trip to Butano Staet Park is set for Saturday, Sept. 2nd through Monday Sept. 4th. We will be camping directly under the canopy of a redwood forest in Pescadero. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, hike under beautiful redwoods, learn more about vegan cooking, and share a leisurely weekend with like-minded folks. We especially encourage folks who are new or aspiring vegans or activists to join us, as promoting veganism and promoting vegan advocacy underlies all of the events and activities that BAVEG volunteers organize.

Space is limited so check out the event calendar if you’re interested in joining us on another great trip.
