As vegetarians and vegans, you are probably aware that many businesses employ deceptive advertising to mislead consumers into believing their products are humanely produced. Egg companies are some of the worst offenders. For example, images of happy hens in nests or labels claiming “animal friendly” lead consumers to believe the eggs come from hens who were treated humanely, or at the very least, from hens not raised in cages. In reality, these chickens are often kept in small wire battery cages on factory farms.
I am a member of an animal group that's putting together a lawsuit against the federal government asking them to regulate labeling to stop this problem of misleading egg carton labeling. To do so, we need individual egg consumers to participate as plaintiffs. The ideal plaintiff buys eggs, is interested in buying humanely produced eggs, and is confused about what different labels mean. There would be no financial obligation and limited time commitment. Please let me know if you or anyone you know might be interested, or if you have questions. Thanks, and thanks for your support of the veg movement!
