Dear Veg Friends,
I hope you will use this forum as a way to connect with the local community and to allow others to connect with you. By the way, if you are single or just looking for new friends, feel free to mention that, too.
Including your location and interests is ideal! Also AR/Veg projects that you're working on, if you have time/skills that you want to volunteer, etc.
If you really want to connect with more veggies in your city, try putting your city in the subject line of your intro.
I hope everyone who did an intro to our mailing list ("SFBAVEG") will re-introduce themself in this forum! We did archive the intros, they live at: http://www.bayareaveg.org/cp.htm
Only members are able to post in the forum. So, if you don't have a userid, it's free and easy to register one of your choice. See top of page for link.
Looking forward to meeting you!
Cheers,
Tammy
P.S: This isn't my intro. Intros are have the most recent one at the top, so since mine was done first, it's at the bottom.

Hello, just wanted to say hi to everyone on the board. I don't live in the San Franciso area, although from the sounds of it I think it would be a great place to live for vegetarians. You guys are always having parties and there are plenty of vegetarian restaurants to choose from. I admit I am jealous. You have the Millenium too. I am dying to take a trip out there just to eat there. One day I will.

Ciao...Although I have been living in Berkeley for a couple of years now (and from NorCal, I have yet to find a solid community of like-minded people to hang out with!!!) It's about ***** time I start hanging out with some veggies (not in that militant "I only want vegan friends" kind of way though). though this would be a good place to check out. 22, student at Cal, leaving in a week to intern for PETA!!, and just looking to meet people who not only understand, but live the way i do!

I just registered, so I still haven't looked around too much, but I thought I'd follow suit and introduce myself. I gave up meat back in June, and as my convictions and knowlege base grows regarding ALL of the benefits of a vegan lifestyle and diet, as well as all the atrocities of not adopting that lifestyle, the more I move in that direction. I am struggling a little bit, but know I just need to do it--the cooking is what is holding me back the most. Anyway, on a more personal note, I am 26, engaged, female...I live in KY as my subject mentions...I manage a restaurant but am having some real difficulty reconciling my company's work and my convictions. Its tearing me apart recently. I would LOVE to be where I can do what I love (manage a restaurant) without compromising my veg convictions. I pretty much have to wait until my fiancee graduates tho.

hi, all! just found BAV last night and leafletted (word?) today with tammy. hopefully i can host something one of these days but i'm pretty new to SF (moved here dec 30 '04) and haven't found my own place or a job yet. boo.
short life story goes as follows: lived in indiana for 18 years and didn't like it, moved to chicago for art school and wanted to be further away from indiana, moved to montana and did a stint with the montana conservation corps, then decided to see what SF wanted with me and here i am. i've been vegetarian for almost 5 years and vegan for about 4 months.
interesting fact: it is easier to eat vegan in montana than in indiana.

The nutshell:
Born and raised in Las Vegas, but I moved here from New York last month, and I don't really know anyone other than co-workers at the moment. I've been vegan for 3 years, vegetarian for a few years before that. I'm 21, a pre-law major, and currently work at a dog daycare in San Jose.

I am new to this website/forum. I am from India, currently in Pleasant Hill, CA on work. In our country Vegetarianism is very popular, but most of the people are not even aware of the term "Vegan". Quitting milk is not a easy task in India!! Traditionally cows are worshipped and hence all milk and milk-products are sacred.
When I became a Vegan somewhere during year 2000, I was not even aware of the term!
I will be here till August and then will move back to India, I guess. _________________ Thanks and Regards,

Hello everyone! I haven't looked around too much, but it looks like you've got a good site here. I was raised in the BA but am currently living in Chicago. I'm thinking about moving back to the East Bay to be closer to the family and I thought I'd start seeing what the veg*n community is like here.
I've been solidly vegetarian since '03, and vegan since '04, although I was on and off vegetarian from '94 or so to '03.

Hello friends.
My name is Brett and I work in Berkeley at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory ( http://www.lbl.gov/ ) I live next door in El Cerrito.
I believe I posted on this system some years ago, but I cannot remember my user name. Well, here I am again, hopefully to stay a little longer!
I am 43 years old, and I have many interests including: philosophy, spirituality, web development, writing, playing chess (which might help explain my avatar!), and vegetarianism (of course!)
I am a lacto-vegetarian, though I maintain a website for a very fine vegan chef who specializes in delicious, affordable vegan desserts: http://www.veganmagic.com/. She also makes dinners, etc.
I also maintain a number of other websites you are most welcome to visit:
http://www.atheoryofjustice.org/, some of my ideas about social justice, particularly with reference to the writings of Harvard philosopher John Rawls (author of "A Theory of Justice")
You may also discover a bit more about my odd sense of humor in my profile at Chessgames.com (where I post under then name "BishopBerkeley" using the same avatar I use here):
(Among other interesting things about that website is that we are privileged to have International Chess Grandmaster Susan (Zsuzsa) Polgar, former Womens World Chess Champion, as a frequent participant:
Well, if you've reached this far, I thank you for your patience! I do look forward to posting on here from time to time.
I don't generally post my email address, owing to spam concerns, but I am not at all reluctant to post one of my phone numbers (oddly enough!) Should you ever wish to chat, please feel free to drop me a line: (510) 558-9567.

I am 25 years old. Planning on moving to San Francisco in sept/oct, and have been researching the area for a long time now. I have visited there once a year for the past 3 years, and have known since the first visit that I want to live in san fran. I have been vegan for almost 9 years, and vegetarian for 11. I'm still alive, so I must be doing something right!
Anyway, so yes...i plan to move there soon. I guess this is just a good way to learn more about the city, as well as the options it holds for vegans. I am also obviously looking to meet people since I will be new to the city.
I have a B.A. in Music Industry, and will be looking for a job when i get there! Preferrably in the music industry, but if not, i'm interested in other things as well.

Hi, I just joined this site. My name is Lisa, I live in San Francisco, and I’m currently 51 years old. I went vegetarian gradually from the mid-late 70s when I was in my early twenties and vegan gradually since 1988 when read John Robbin’s book Diet For A New America and learned about veganism for the first time. I’ve been “completely” vegan since 10/94. I co hosted and hosted vegetarian chats on America Online for several years and I've volunteered/participated in the veg*n community in various ways, although I haven't been active recently. I originally went vegetarian because the idea of eating animal flesh did not appeal to me, but I’ve managed to become and stay vegan because of animal suffering/rights reasons. I have two local vegan friends; my other vegan and vegetarian friends live out of the SF Bay Area. So I would be interested in meeting other local vegans. I prefer eating at vegan (and to a lesser degree vegetarian) restaurants only, and my omnivorous friends show various levels of tolerance for rarely going to mixed restaurants with me. I love dining out, dogs and cats, hiking and working out when I’m healthy enough to do so, and am an avid book reader.

Hi! My name is Sara. I am 18 and have been a vegetarian since eigth grade. I just moved to the bay area from New Jersey. My current job is taking care of an eighteen month old and six week old baby. So not much oppurtunity to meet people there. Anyway, I am just looking for some nice people to talk with and hopefully make some new friends to make this move a little easier. [/i]

Hey all,
My name is Alanna. I'm 20, half-Japanese, and in my second year as a Graphic Design major at the Academy of Art University in SF. I'd love to meet other vegans/vegetarians in the city! It's hard for me to get out of the city very much, I don't have a car and BART makes me motion-sick I've been an "almost vegetarian" since high school, but after I read a pamphlet from PETA last September, I've been vegan since. It was easy to give up meat and eggs and milk, but cheese took me a little while. Soy cheese is not my thing, but after I discovered nutritional yeast, the cheese cravings disappeared
I'm eager to meet other herbivores. I have no veg friends! I started a group on Myspace for vegetarians at my school, but there's only 2 people in it so far. I'm going to look into starting a veg club for AAU students, hopefully that will work out.
My omni boyfriend doesn't understand my going vegan, but he still tries to be as supportive as he can Recently I've been learning how to cook, with La Dolce Vegan as my main guide, since a healthy vegan lifestyle is impossible with just cafeteria food and frozen food, which is what most of my fellow college students eat. Now armed with some great recipes, I'll be going back to SF after this winter break, able to show my boyfriend that vegan food doesn't mean yucky food!
My interests? Well, my two most favorite bands are Third Eye Blind and Mae. My hometown is Portland, Oregon; I love it there, despite all the rain! I love yoga but it's too expensive for me to go to classes very often, so I have a Shiva Rea DVD and a yoga book so I can practice at home. I don't know when I'll move out of the school dorms, but when I get an apartment, I will adopt a dachshund I grew up with my grandparents' weenie dogs, so I love those littlle dogs. My favorite movie at the moment is Howl's Moving Castle. Miyazaki movies are the best.
I bought The Garden of Vegan last night! Those cookbooks are just awesome. I've been cooking dinner for my omni family for the past few weeks, and they are very impressed!
Love to you all and hope to meet some veg friends soon!

hi everyone!

anways i grew up with tons of veg friends in the mass xHCx scene and now that i live in the bay area (livermore) i have none. go figure. im 28 yr old (male) working professional (sort of... err the working part is true... my job choices permit me to have a mohawk if i feel so inclined).
so i just found this site and i will def try to make it to some of the get togethers and such. i actually came looking for a site like this so i could post that i am looking for a veg roommate (i can do without the smell of meat cooking in my own home) to share my condo in livermore. so if you are interested please email me for more info.
thanks

Hy, My name is Jovanky De Los Santos and I am slowly transitioning to vegetarianism, my ultimate goal. I have already given up dairy due to the high cholesterol. My motivation for becoming a vegetarian is mostly health, I have a slight high blood pressure and my cholesterol was found high a few times. I feel great I have to say.
I started developping a website with information I am compiling from different books and during this period I have learned so much that I cant think of anything else now.
This is a nice community, my ultimate goal is to build my site as a support base for the veg community. _________________ Jovanky De Los Santos

Hello everyone!
My name is Sergio and live in San José. I am turning 28 years old and have progressively become a vegetarian this year, for good. I don't believe I will ever be able to be a full vegan, but most of the days I am actually vegan. I am a Whole Foods addict.
I hope to learn from this group and perhaps join in the events and activities you guys have going on. I don't know anyone, besides my family, that are vegetarians, So yes, it would be delightful to meet new people with our way of thinking, eventually.

Hi, I'm in Menlo Park and interested in transitioning to vegetarianism. I'm looking around the site and wondering if vegetarians are welcome, or if this is really a vegan group?
