Hi Everybody,

Thank you to all who voted and gave helpful information.

The first book club meeting will be held on the 4th Sunday in January, 1/22/06 at 5:00 in the early evening. The restaurant we'll meet at will depend on the number of people who sign up to participate; all attempts will be made to meet at a convenient location. We'll be discussing the book The Kite Runner, which is a novel by Khaled Hosseini. It's a book that's received much acclaim and has been enjoyed by many book clubs. Even if you've previously read it, please join us and contribute to and enjoy the discussion.

The link to information about this book at amazon.com is http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1594480001/qid=1125876281/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/104-3029006-4582353?v=glance&s=books

The BAVeg Book Club will be reading 7 or 8 general books a year such as novels, general nonfiction, and short story collections, all of which must be available in paperback, for 7 or 8 meetings a year on the 4th Sundays of January, March, April, June, July, September, October, and in December we might meet on the 1st Sunday of the month or some other convenient time, or might take that month off depending on what members want.

These meetings will be held at 5:00 at various veg*n restaurants so we can eat early dinners and discuss books in a social, and hopefully enjoyable, setting.

Future books will be decided by consensus, via this forum and at book club meetings.

Tammy will be holding the 4 ar/veg book meetings on the 2nd Sundays of February, May, August, and November as part of this book club, and in conjunction with BAVeg's Compassionate Living Program.

Exclamation To RSVP for the 1/22/05 meeting to a reserve a space for yourself, please go to

http://www.bayareaveg.org/events.htm?EID=1015#1015

and click on the rsvp and submit your information.

You can also send a private message at bayareaveg.org/forum to LHLisavegan.

Thanks so much. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone and enjoying some interesting book discussions and delicious vegan food.

Lisa

Changed to early 5:00 dinners at veg*n restaurants. The specific restaurants will depend on the number of people who have signed up for each meeting. Some restaurants have appropriate tables for 9; some places would work only if we have a maximum of 4-6 people.

Hey, just saw that the author is going to be at an event at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center 10/19 @ 7:30 pm - free & open to the public

Apparently it's a library program where all the libraries are reading the same book (at least in my county)

Thanks, Kate. Which author?

By the way, this is currently an inactive thread/group. The vegan book club is still meeting but is no longer officially associated with BAVeg. Maybe again someday if BAVeg gets more active again???
