We are the happy new parents of an eight month old bouncy baby boy. we fully intend to raise him vegan. we know as he grows older the issue of veganism will become larger and larger in our lives. we would love to organize a support group for vegan families to address all the issues that come with living and raising a child in such an alternative lifestyle. we live in SF and try to use public transportation as much as possible so we would like to keep it local. although there is also the option of developing a cyber-group as well via email. hopefully there's some interest out there! -mary, aaron, +io

I'm very interested in a group like this. I live in Martinez, but I can commute to the city sometimes.

I have a 2-year-old daughter and baby #2 is on the way (due in 4 weeks). Along with my husband, we're a vegan family.

I can be reached at caity@caityandstefan.com

Thanks!

It would be great to meet other families that are raising their children vegan. We have 3 children and are attempting to raise them vegan. They are 12, 10 and 1 year old. It's good to see other families raising their children vegan. While it looks like we're (Mary, Aaron; Caity and Stefan, myself and my wife) are spread out geographically (San Francisco, Martinez, San Leandro), maybe we could at least communicate on the internet and hopefully find other local families trying to raise their children vegan. There are a lot of hurdles raising vegan kids and it would be great to compare experiences with you.

Through an event and a recent email, I've learned of two more familes out there with young vegan children. Guess there are more out there than I thought!

Tracy (who lives in Pacifica) is hosting a Vegan Food Party on Saturday 8/6. She has 3 kids. They are teens, but she would love to have more families there.

Could folks make it to that event? Info is on the event calendar.

If you're otherwise interested in trying to organize a vegan parents gathering, or trying to do outreach to specifically find more vegan parents in the bay area and have a common place to discuss vegan parenting type issues, please email me (through the contact page on this website) or better yet --

respond to this post in this forum, introduce yourself & your family, and select the box "Notify me when a reply is posted".

If we had an official BAVeg Vegan Parents group, we could promote it when we do our general outreach and on our membership page. Just need a couple of people to step-up and be willing to be more involved. But maybe the first step is to see if there's at least interest in the existing community. So please encourage any veggie parents you know to respond...

I don't have kids but I enjoy bringing the community together and Vegan Families are special. They are raising the next generation of vegans! Laughing

I wasn't able to attend the Pacifica VFP at Tracy's - but I wish I could have. I adore her and her children. Her daughter used to hang out with me and Gianna when we lived in the area.

By way of introduction:

I live in Martinez, which feels like the other side of the planet sometimes (especially with children). We have been very inactive in the vegan community here - not going to VFPs in the area - which is a shame, since I'd love to connect with other vegetarians. Maybe I'll get my act together to go to the August 20th Contra Costa County VFP.

I have an almost-3-year-old daughter, Gianna, and a 5-month-old son, Colin. My husband is Stefan and he and I went vegan about 5 years ago. We live in a typical suburban house with our dog, Cain and two cats, Zen and Del.

I experience situations once in a while that I wish I could talk to others about (other than my husband, who's very supportive BTW) - and I'd love to use this forum as an outlet/discussion opportunity in the future. I'd also love to have a meeting/playgroup/playdate with you all!

Here's a question I have for all you vegan families out there in the Bay Area: Do any of you participate in animal rights activism? If so, how do you juggle children, work, home life, etc with AR work?

It's been a while since anyone posted anythiing on this thread but I am hoping that some great vegan or vegitarian families will see it and we can connect!

We are a vegan family of three...myself (Haydee), my husband and our 4 month old daughter. We are having a hard time finding bay area families who have chosen to live an animal conscious lifestyle. I am a stay at home mom and would love to find other parents for playgroups and activities. Even if your children are a bit older or younger, that's ok! Our daughter is very bright and alert for her age and loves to watch other children play and grown-ups chat. She's just sick of sitting in the house with me all day!

We live in Castro Valley but don't mind driving into SF or other bay areas. Feel free to email me at haydeegeorges@hotmail.com

Hope to hear from veggies soon!!

Hi,

I'm so glad I came across this post! I joined the forum specifically to connect with others raising vegan children. I'm actually trying to start a little daycare co-op, but only know 1 other vegan parent.

So hi! My name is Florencia, I'm mom to Kayen, a healthy 1.5 yr old obsessed with blueberries.

We've started a vegan playgroup to meet parents and other children who have chosen to be vegan. Please click the link below to join our group.

http://playgroup.meetup.com/504/

We started this playgroup so our children can grow other vegan children. I feel like it's so important for children to have friends that they see on a regular basis to build trust in other humans. Being vegan makes it harder and more confusing to build that trust. But getting this group together helps us to find other vegan children, and to show them that it can be easy because they are not alone. We often do picnics, get together at someones house, take short trips, restaurants, but most of all just to have fun with our kids!

ANYONE (Vegan or interested in Veganisim) is more then welcome to join.

Being vegan means one thing to me: an attempt to reduce the intense suffering of nonhuman animals. All of our events held will have food that is PURE VEGAN (no animal products including meat, dairy, cheese, yogurt, honey...). If you would like to bring anything to our potlucks please bring vegan items only.

For more information on Veganism please see VEGAN OUTREACH:
