I am a vegan who recently moved to San Francisco and my husband and I are planning on conceiving in the next couple of months. I don't currently have a doctor. I would like to speak with a doctor about my nutrition and to ensure my body is ready to create a healthy baby. I am looking for recommendations of doctors who understand vegan (or vegetarian) nutrition. On a side note, is there a group of vegan/vegetarian parents in the bay area? Thank you in advance.

Hi Nicole
Welcome to the Bay Area
As far as vegan/vegetarian parent groups - here is some historical context but so far we don't really have anything organized within the group. We do get get this inquiry at least a couple of times a year but so far no parents have been able to step forward and really get anything organized for Bay Area Veg.

Maybe you will get some private, individual responses that will be helpful to you.
Check out the event calendar and hopefully you'll meet some new friends in your new hometown. I'm organizing a leafleting & dinner party on Saturday in SF ...

An enterprising parent among us did finally start a Yahoo Group for veg*n bay area parents to share information and support. It can be found here:

became a vegetarian twice in my life. The first time was in 1998, when I was 16 years old. My parents had no idea how to handle my little per-teen food rebellion and were concerned about my nutrition and health, so they pretty much put the kibosh on that.

My wife started to be vegan when she looked in the mirror and thinks she's fat but she is not. She became conscious when she gave birth to our first baby. She gained weight that time but now she is very discipline and have determination to lose weight and see herself in the mirror with sexy figure.
