Hi,
Those who are interested to donate to this project, please
contribute using
http://www.bayareaveg.org/donate.htm
and mark it as "vegetarian food donation for KPFA volunteers".
Tammy will let me know about final count. If you are mailing
checks, please email me, so I can count on those too.

I hope we can make at least two deliveries, so the "Bay Area Vegetarian" will be thanked on the air for two days. KPFA needs 20 vegetarian meals for dinner, delivered at 5p.m.
They asked for Fr/Sat/Sun this week, and I guess some more next two weeks.

For now, the only problem is the delivery. I can order by phone. But, none of the pure veg places I called do any kind of delivery. Living in Fremont, I can only try to do it on
one of the weekend evenings. But I hate to burn gas and air to do this single action of moving food from one street to the next one inside Berkley. I will try to work this out,
unless someone from the area can step in and help out.

They also need phone volunteers, but those are not mentioned on the air by names. They might do, if it is a group. The hardest for them
to get someone on morning (from 7am) and evenings (8pm+).

Thanks,
Sergei.

OK,

The first take out will be done on Friday, from Manzanita.
Since no delivery from veg places exist, I will do it myself.
Twenty meals with boxes will be 230$, I will have a receipt.
But we will have money for a second round, I think.
So if someone will volunteer for the delivery next time,
that will be great. That can be somewhere next week,
maybe weekend.

So, join in with donations and more ideas.

Thanks,
Sergei.

Sergei,
I got a little behind on my reading, and I posted about FLACOS ... they would be perfect since you're talking about Bay Area Veg donating dinner.

www.flacos.com

As I said in my post (which you might not have seen yet), it's 100% vegan mexican cuisine, and it OHMIGAW ... so unbelievably good! But it's not cheap. I'll donate $50 toward this if you're still looking for donations ...

I also recommend Daily Harvest Catering in Emeryville ... vegan and incredibly delicious as well!

I tried sending money at the "donate" link in the post above, via paypal (i added 3% to my donation to cover the fee), but there was no way to designate:

"vegetarian food donation for KPFA volunteers"

the BAV Outreach field was already filled out, and I couldn't change it.
Any ideas for help?

I think the second veg food donation should be done outside of the KPFA pledge drive.

Once outside their fundraising focus, I think its is a better opportunity to have a real dialogue with them about vegetarianism. Get them to try the food, have a discussion about the issues of vegetarianism ..

Potentially buy lots of ingredients, get together at someone's house and make a bunch of food to be dropped off. Or, there are some excellent chefs on the list - one of them may volunteer to help cook if someone else could deliver. Additionally, there are also several professional chefs on the list and listed in the Guide - maybe they would donate their time.

I think with more planning, it may be possible to find someone who could drop off food in the morning; there's probably a lot of listeners who are commuting during that time.

As a side note, I hope this doesn't distract from other fundraising that we'll need to do for outreach/education this year.

Cheers,
Tammy

I thought Ryan from Daily Harvest moved to Mendocino - the website URL doesn't work anyways

As for the PayPal link, yes, it is meant to be a generic donation button not for special projects. You can go ahead and use it and just email us if there's a specific project that you want it directed towards.

Thanks!

The ideas for outreach at radio stations sound really good; I'm glad Sergei got this started, as it sounds like a great way to get more publicity for Bay Area Vegetarians.

Also, thanks for the heads up about Daily Harvest Catering moving to Mendocino. It's strange about the link; it worked when I posted it because I actually did check it and view it; the address listed confirmed that were still in Emeryville. But now it's not working. I wonder if I checked it on its last day of operation .... or maybe the screen was cached somehow in my computer at home.

Anyway, keep up the good work Tammy!
Take care,
Rachel
