Ultimate Guide Reviews
Manzanita Restaurant Vegan, organic AND macrobiotic - a great combination not often found at restaurants. Casual but friendly. Food was delicious but may seem a bit "simple" or unusual for people not used to it. Try it! I have eaten here many times and have never had a bad meal. Always good and satisfying and healthy. I LOVE this place. 5 stars 2007-05-29
Central Vegetarian Cuisine I don't eat fake meat products so can't comment on those, but there are also vegetable or plain tofu based dishes. Food was pretty good, a little too heavy/salty for me to eat regularly (though I feel that way about most Asian restaurants). Most of menu is vegan. Vegan chow mein was not bad but not as good as I hoped. Eggplant clay pot and spring roll were very good. Friendly staff. Will go again. 3.5 stars 2007-05-29
Papalote I am a huge fan of Mexican food and burritos, and this place caters to vegans, which is certainly rare when it comes to Mexican. The food is great, large portions. Try the vegan mole (as it is unusual to find this). Place is very small and there is often a line, but it's worth it. Will go again. 5 stars 2007-05-29
The Plant Cafe Organic Nice atmosphere and decor, but still casual. Food was really good, fresh and made with health and taste in mind. Nice variety of vegan options (from Asian dishes to more American style), and also vegan breakfast options too. Both soy based (tofu, tempeh) and non-soy vegan food. They make their own vegan veggie burgers. I will definitely come back here many times! 4.5 stars 2007-01-05
Medicine New-Shojin Eatstation Not the most amazing food I've ever had, but tasty and satisfying and I did enjoy my meal. They do have some unusual dishes and flavors that you don't get elsewhere, which I like. The menu is limited, which is fine, but just know that. But all dishes are healthy with high quality ingredients - my body felt good afterwards! The dining room is open and airy with stylish decor. I will go back again. 4 stars 2007-01-05
Millennium Gourmet food, that also happens to be vegan. Nice selection & variety. Nice drink menu. Our waiter was attentive & very friendly. Really enjoyed this meal. Dishes prepared such that non-veg people will enjoy it as well - meaning a well thought out menu. Some dishes of course were more interesting than others but all were good. Expensive (worth it), but will definitely come for special occasions. 5 stars 2006-10-27
Ristorante Raphael Very delicious. Good vegan options, which are clearly marked. Nice atmosphere. Highly recommended for a nice meal. Full bar with drink specialties, and a happy hour. No fish smell when I went. 4.5 stars 2005-10-17
Pizza Plaza Good pizza, although not quite as tasty as Lanesplitter. Small local place. Friendly service, even offered to run to Whole Foods to buy a topping that he was out of. Definitely worth checking out. 4 stars 2005-10-17
Falafel of Santa Cruz When I go to Santa Cruz I love to stop here. Falafel is very tasty and not too greasy, although the place is a bit of a "hole in the wall". 4 stars 2005-09-14
Saturn Cafe Awesome place for vegans. Vegan nachos are yummy! Burgers and fries are tasty as well. It can get very busy and the service can be inefficient, but it stays open late - nice for after the bars close. 4.5 stars 2005-09-14
Berkeley Bowl Grocery store w/ prepared foods section. Many vegan and vegetarian grocery items. Excellent produce section. Some prepared foods w/ veg*n options. Great burritos w/ vegan rice and beans, and veggies. 4.5 stars 2005-09-12
Buffalo Bills Only a few veg*n options, but good place to go with non-veg*n friends. I think the vegan pizza and salad were the only vegan options, but they were good. Nice atmosphere. 3.5 stars 2005-09-12
New World Vegan Iím not a fan of fake meat products, which they use a lot. But they do have a number of dishes without. The claypots are very tasty. My non-veg friends enjoyed it as well. 4 stars 2005-09-12
Lanesplitter Pizza & Pub Great place. Vegan pizza and calzone's are excellent. Non-vegan pizza as well. They have a happy hour during the week. I will definitely go back again! 4.5 stars 2005-09-12
Greens Restaurant More vegan options would be preferable, but food was excellent, very fresh. Good b/c itís good food, not just b/c itís good veg*n food. Pricey, but nice to have a veg restaurant for special occasions. 4.5 stars 2005-09-12
