During the even months, we will have philosophy discussions based on books, films, etc.=0D=0A=0D=0ABook:  Case for Animal Rights by Tom Regan=0D=0A=0D=0AThe discussion will take place at Loving Hut restaurant in San Francisco=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0ANewcomers are always welcome!=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AA note on the book: It can be tough to get through The Case for Animal Rights if you're new to this type of material. Feel free to come even if you haven't made it all the way through the book. =0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AWe'll discuss this book over two meetings.  During our August meeting, we'll cover Chapters 1 through 5, and the remaining Chapters at our October meeting.=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0ARegan is an excellent writer and teacher. Coming away from this book you'll have a good understanding of the major approaches to normative ethics (e.g., contractarianism, egoism, utilitarianism, Kant's view of rights) and Regan's solid criticisms of them, as well as a thorough understanding Regan's own position regarding the rights view. =0D=0A=0D=0A
