Double your Donation for Meat-Eaters to try Veg Food

Saturday, March 24th, 2012

Please join Bay Area Vegetarians for the first annual Oakland Veg Week!

Oakland Veg Week is a week-long celebration (April 15-21, 2012) that invites meat-eaters to pledge to be vegetarian for one week. It’s a positive, upbeat event where everyone wins: Meat-eaters who want a little help with their veg experiment, local restaurants who want more customers, the City of Oakland (who, let’s face it, could use some happy press!), and most importantly, the animals who would really, really, really like to see more vegetarians!

Bay Area Vegetarians is going to match every donation made for OVW12 up to $500.00. For real! That means a possible total of $1,000 to buy more vegan food to give to meat-eaters…if you can help us out. Your $50 donation is actually $100 with this match, and it’s tax-deductible! Oakland Veg Week is all volunteer, all free, and all awesome. With your support, OVW can reach more meat-eaters with the veg information and samples.

Please consider donating today to help create more vegetarians!

New World Vegan closing August 2009

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Well, we’ve long heard rumors that New World Vegan would be closing .. thanks to Rachel for sharing the update that a date has been set.  New World Vegan will close its doors at the end of August.

New World lives on in Symphonie, a sister restaurant located in Richmond that opened in February 2009.

Long-time Bay Area folks may remember another veg restaurant, Bode, that occupied that same location prior to New World Vegan.

Souley Vegan Reopens in Jack London Square

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Souley Vegan reopened on Friday, July 24th in its new restaurant location in Oakland’s Jack London Square.  It was previously located on 13th Street in Oakland, closed last fall for remodelling, and never re-opened.  Many in the veg community are happy to see the return of vegan soul food.

Souley Vegan continues to sell its fare at Farmer’s Markets throughout the bay area, including the Lake Merritt Farmer’s Market and the relatively new Farmer’s Market in the Metreon complex in San Francisco.

Thanks to Bob for sharing the official word of their long anticipated opening.

Souley Vegan (Oakland) closed

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Souley Vegan, which closed last September and planned to re-open by end of October after remodelling, has announced its restaurant serving vegan soul food will not be reopening at its current location due to the need for costly structural repairs which the business owners are unable to afford.  Still available for catering and at Lake Merritt Farmer’s Market.  No current date for expected new site opening if and when one is found.

Thanks to Bob for the update.
