Thumbs Up for Vegetarian Gourmet in San Mateo

We had a yummy BAVEG dinner there last nite. Our section of the table enjoyed two appetizers – scallion pancakes and spring rolls, followed by an awesome Curry Vegetable dish (variety of vegetables, including my favorite, broccoli, and tofu, in a tasty curry sauce, very similar to Garden Fresh curry), Family Style Tofu, Vegetarian Ham, Asparagus Chicken, and Chen Pi Vegetarian Beef. All the faux meat dishes also included vegetables, which were cooked just right. The asparagus tasted especially good that nite (very fresh).

Everything was well-seasoned, tasty, and really enjoyable. Some Chinese food tastes oily, but theirs does not.

Six of us shared 2 appetizers, 5 entrees above, and brown rice — and were very happy and full after the meal — for the whopping low total of $11/person (and that included a big tip).

Easy (free) street parking usually available right in front of the restaurant, Sam Trans bus stop very convenient, and Cal Trans/San Mateo is about 6 blocks (15 minutes) away. On Friday and Saturdays they open until 10 pm!

The only *bad* thing about the restaurant — they remain a hidden treasure and don’t have a lot of business. If you work, live, or travel in the area, please visit Vegetarian Gourmet in San Mateo!

Yes, I agree Tammy, This place is a treasure for those of us that go to San Mateo. My mother and brother live there and this is the kind of place we can all enjoy eating at together. They prepared an excellent Chow Fun for us. My Favorite!!We had more than enough food and the price was reasonable. There are 80 restaurants in downtown SM but the choice is now clear-head to Vegetarian Gourmet! And another side benefit, there’s usually easy parking in front of their restaurant. Let’s generate some healthy business for this restaurant!
